The side dump is designed to haul its payload over very long distances at high speeds without overheating the tires. The side dump dumping method offers a quick cycle time and the ability to dump both boxes without splitting the trailers. The relatively narrow equipment allows for a much narrower road than conventional hauling methods. This decreases the capital and operating cost of the infrastructure.
The axle group is built as an interchangeable cassette. This cassette can be replaced by a new/refurbished cassette to keep the trailer in production. The spare cassette can then be easily worked on by maintenance staff without taking a large amount of floor space.
Additional trailers can be added to the train to increase the payload capacity. The road train’s capacity is usually limited by the terrain and truck’s GVWR limit. Each mine’s hauling road and conditions are analyzed to determine the most cost-effective solution.
